Plot Outline:
An adaptation of Homer's great epic, the film follows the assault on Troy by the united Greek forces and chronicles the fates of the men involved.

Useful Expressions

1. Men are haunted by the vastness of eternity.
= bear [keep, have] (a thing) in mind; keep (a thing) in view; have (a matter) at heart
= bad dream
Eg) It has haunted me [never been off my mind] for years.

Cf) be haunted= ghostlike
Eg) it is rumored that the house is haunted.

2. I wouldn't be bothering with the shield then, would l?

Question tag

Wouldn't I? Is s question tag (+ mini question that we often put on the end of a sentence in spoken English) . In question tags, we use an auxiliary verb (have, was / are / will / can, would…etc), we use "do, does, did," for the present and past simple.

Eg) A: Keren plays the piano, doesn't she?
      B: Well, yes, but not very well
Eg) A: You didn't lock the door, did you?
      B: No, I forgot.

3. Apparently, you won some great victory.
= presumably (I think you did)

4. This is not worthy of royalty!
= not worth having royalty (in attendance)

worthy of = not good enough for the occasion

Why did you choose to love your god? We are doomed.
= already determined, destined

Eg) The plan was doomed to fail.
Eg) He was doomed to die.

6. I have endured what no one on earth has endured before.

Grammar point)
Present perfect
When we talk about a period of time that continues from the past until now, we use the present perfect (Have endured).
Eg) Here a speaker is talking about something he has endured in his life. (From the past to now)

7. Your son was the best I have fought.
= just the best fighter

Grammar point)
Superlative, " the best" + Present perfect, 'Have fought' means that your son was the best fighter among whom I have fought in my life (so far).

Eg) She is the most beautiful I have ever seen.
This question is the most difficult I have ever solved.

8. No one wiII stop you. You have my word.
=
This is the truth- I have told you, so believe me.

9. You're a far better king than the one leading this army.
= really the best
