Plot Outline:
Video game adventurer Lara Croft comes to life in a movie where she races against time and villains to recover powerful ancient artifacts.

Useful Expressions

1. The first day of a planetary alignment.
= the planets form one straight line

2. That's more time than I'm prepared to commit to this enterprise.
= He confirms that he has enough time to do the task.

to commit = to promise or give your loyalty, time or money to a particular principle, person or plan of action

3. I am a free spirit.
= I enjoy what I do. I am not limited by usual rules of social behavior.

4. You're a tomb raider
= a person which enters a tomb by force in order to steal from it (to take valuable things, eg. Gold, diamonds, etc)

Tomb = large stone structure or underground room where someone dead, especially an important person, is buried

5. I'm also running backwards.
= the direction which is opposite to the usual direction

E.g.) He began counting backwards: "Ten, nine, eight ..."

6. I gave its possessor the power to control time.
= someone who owns something

E.g.) I am a possessor of Drivers License.

7. This is an obsession.
= something or someone that you think about all the time

E.g.) I have a chocolate obsession = I think about chocolate all the time.

8. The origin of this clock completely eludes me .
= I do not have any idea where the clock was made.

Elude = not achieve, not remember
I don't achieve something = Something eludes me.

E.g.) My goal eludes me.

9. My ignorance amuses me.
= I enjoy having not enough information

10. Sounds like a bunch of lawyers.
= a company, a group

11. You are nosey.
= you are too interested in what other people are doing

12. I knew you would figure this out.
= I knew you would understand everything

13. I have failed & must place an awful burden on your shoulders.
= I haven't finished (haven't done) the task & now you will have to finish it.

Fail = to not do something which you should do
E.g.) He failed to arrive on time

Burden =something difficult to deal with, to worry about
E.g.) My mother worries she has a burden to me.

14. Their abuse of the power led to the destruction of the city.
= They used the power too much. Therefore, the city was destructed.

15. This you must prevent at all costs.
= you must stop it whatever happens

At all costs = no matter what happens

16. Lara, give it up!
= Lara, stop trying to do it! To give up

17. There is no rest for a wicked (idiom)
= said when you have to continue with your work even if you are very tired

18. Your father mentored me in the order.
= Your father supported me (with the advice) and kept me in limits.

19. Don't dwell on it.
= Stop thinking or talking about something, especially bad or unpleasant

20. We will fulfil the sacred promise to our ancestors.
= keep the promise for our parents & grandparents
