Plot Outline:
Pirate Jack Sparrow sets out to save a governor's daughter from fellow pirates, with the hopes that it will give him the opportunity to regain the ship that was stolen from him.

Useful Expressions

1. I'm watching over you, Will. = care for / take care of

2. Elizabeth! Are you alright? Are you decent?
= Are you properly dressed?
= Is it ok if I come in?


3. Still abed at this hour?
= Are you still sleeping / are you in bed?

4. Commodore ( = an official of high rank in the navy ) Norrington he's about to become ( = be going to do something very soon )!

5. No! I cannot just step aside and let you escape.
= move aside / move out of the way / get out of the way

6.He is without doubt the worst pirate I have ever seen.
= for sure / certainly (used when you are giving your opinion and emphasizing the point)

7. I'd rather see her at the bottom of the ocean than in the hands of a pirate. = caught / kidnapped by a pirate

8. That's no incentive for me to fight fair, is it? And as long as you're just hanging there, pay attention. The only rules that really matter are these: what a man can do and what a man can't do.
= a good reason / something that encourages you to do something

9. For instance? You can accept that your father was a pirate and a good man or you can't. But pirate is in your blood, boy.
= Your family have been pirate so you want to become a pirate

So you'll have to square with that someday
= solve a problem /deal with a problem / come to terms / agree to / returning a good deed
= square it off

= to completely fill your mind so that you cannot think of anything else

14. I won't take questions ( = Don't ask any question ) and no second-guesses ( = first answer is correct ) now.

15. Not you. We named the monkey Jack. Gents, our hope is restored!
= give a name to somebody / called

16. Jack, it must be really terrible for you to be trapped on this island.
= not to be able to escape / can't get away
= to catch or keep someone in a place or situation that they cannot escape from

17.To rescue me, to prevent anything from happening to me.
= to save

18. Will: Move! [ Throws sword as Jack falls through, the sword sticks in the wood and Jack has a foothold; he fights to the gallows and there cuts Jack free; they fight all the way up to a tower where they are cornered by Norrington's men ]

19. Will : And a good man. [Jack points to himself proudly] If all I have achieved here is that the hangman will earn two pairs of boots instead of one, so be it. At least my conscience will be clear.
