Plot Outline:
A climatologist tries to figure out a way to save the world from abrupt global warming. He must get to his young son in New York, which is being taken over by a new ice age.

Useful Expressions

1. The farther south they go, the safer they'll be.

The + comparative +(noun /subject+ verb), the + comparative + (subject+ verb).

We use "the~, the~" to say that one thing depends on another thing.

E.g.)1. The warmer the weather, the better we willl arrive.
2. The sooner we leave, the earlier we will arrive.
3. The younger you are, the easier it is to learn
4.the more expensive the hotel, the better the service.

2. We're just about out of petrol.
Just about = just before
Ouf of petrol = nothing left

E.g.) I was just about to go out and you called me.
E.g.) I am out of money. Could you lend me some?

3. I was walking my dog.
= I was walking with my dog

Walk someone / something = take a walk together( with someone) / take someone to a place

E.g.) It's too late. It is dangerous to walk outside alone. I'll walk you home.

4. If these people go outside, they will freeze to death!
= go to extremes / it's too cold so that you will be almost about to death (often used to emphasis the serious situation)

E.g.) I went to see a scary movie alone yesterday and I way scared to death. I am hungry to death

5. I think we're in the eye of it.
= right in the middle

6. Well, we had to get inside in kind of a hurry, so I sort of pushed you in.
kind of = sort of = a little bit= more or less

eg) I am sort of busy right now. Could you call me back later?

7. Affirmative. It's finally clearing.
= of course / I am sure / I am positive
