About the Courses

The Certificate course incorporates the National Certificate in Computing (Level 2), ICDL (International Computing Driver Licence) and IC3 (Internet and Computing Core Certification)

ICDL - International Computer Drivers Licence

The ICDL is an internationally recognised qualification that covers seven modules of computer competency. The content of the ICDL modules within the Wintec CCA will fully prepare you for the International Computer Driving Licence (ICDL) exams.

For further information on the ICDL qualification and accredited test centres, contact the New Zealand Computer Society at www.nzcs.org.nz/icdl

IC3

IC3 is an international qualification with three modules; Computing Fundamentals, Key Applications and Living Online. Ten modules within the CCA comprise the IC3 syllabus. To gain the IC3 students must pass exams for each of the three modules. IC3 has been granted credit inclusion for the National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA) at Level 2 (11 credit equivalents) until 31 December 2006. Please check out the details at http://www.ic3.co.nz.

Programme Suitability

The CCA is an ideal starting point for anyone interested in learning all about computers and the Internet.

Programme Structure

  1. Each CCA module is worth 4 credits towards the Certificate. To gain the CCA you need a total of 40 CCA credits and you must pass an online assessment for each of the 10 modules you choose to study.
  2. Each module has approximately 40 hours of self-paced learning. You have up to 3 years to pass all 10 modules although most students will be able to complete the programme in a matter of months.
  3. Once you have enrolled onto the Certificate programme by completing a simple online application, you will be given a unique Username and Password. If you don't have access to the Internet or would prefer to do this by telephone, you can call the Booking Line on (09) 307 4781 or 0800 843733.
  4. At the classroom session your Facilitator will explain how to get started on the course. All the modules follow the same format so once you have completed one, you will be able to study them all!
  5. You continue to study the module at a time and place that suits you. When you've finished the module you sit an online assessment. You must score at least 80% to pass but it is an 'open book' assessment, (you may refer to the course content whilst taking the assessment), and you are allowed 3 attempts to pass.
  6. You then select the next module(s) that you wish to study. You have a choice of attending another classroom session to get started if you wish or completing the module(s) entirely online.
  7. If you change your mind or want to return to a classroom session for a 'refresher', you may do so at any time.
  8. When you have passed 10 assessments you will be awarded the WintecActive Certificate in Computer Applications.
