I have a crush on him…
Sara: You seem very enthusiastic about something. What’s going on?
Sophie: I have a date with Steve tomorrow.
Sara: You’ve got to be kidding. He’s not your type at all!
Sophie: Having known him for the last three years I think there’s some chemistry between us.
Sara: Well…what made you get a crush on him?
Sophie: You know…he has made such a lasting impression on me, because he’s got a smiley face and I like the way he talks. He is always very logical but also very soft. Also he’s so confident about everything. I think I am attracted to his leadership. But he’s a good listener too.
Sara: I’ve always thought that you’re far better than him. I’m really shocked that you have a crush on him, man!
Sophie: Are you talking about looks? You know I’m not really keen on shallow things; it’s what’s on the inside that matters. I am already dying to see him.
Sara: Well I can’t help then. Just don’t go overboard. Love needs time to grow. Don’t show how you feel too much at once. Guys don’t like girls that are too needy.
Sophie: Ok, ok. You’re such a know it all. Take it easy. You know I that I fall head over heels easily

Have a crush on someone – Be attracted to someone.
Shallow: Someone is shallow if they focus on superficial things like appearance.
Needy: someone who demands a lot from others
Head over heels: Totally in love with someone.
Know it all: someone who acts as if they know everything - someone who is quick to tell others what to do.
Cf. Such a nag = someone who nags a lot.
Get serious with someone/ go out with someone /go steady with someone = Start a relationship with someone/become boyfriend and girlfriend.
“Go steady” is an American expression – we don’t really use it in New Zealand. We are more likely to use “go out with someone” in New Zealand.
