Screwed up

Tanya: I met the broker yesterday.

Joyce: Did you? How did it go?

Tanya: We didn’t get it. Everyone in the company is blaming me.

Joyce: Why? They are the ones who screwed up.

Tanya: But I am the one who recommended dealing with the company.

Joyce: Anyway something didn’t feel right from the beginning. They just made fun of you.

Tanya: I have to find a solution whatever it takes to pay them back

Joyce: I don’t recommend you take it all on yourself.

1. Screw up = mess up; ruin

Eg. Don’t hang out with those guys. They are all screwed up.

 2. Something doesn’t feel right = something seems wrong

This is like the expression “something fishy”

eg. I think there’s something fishy going on here – which means “I am suspicious of something here”; “Something seems wrong here”.

 3. Do whatever it takes – Do whatever you can, no matter what it takes.

eg. I want to stop her being addicted to alcohol, whatever it takes.

4.Take it all on oneself - take all the responsibility oneself.

A: My father had to take care of all the debts when his company went bust last year

B: that must have been a lot to take on by himself

Cf. with other expressions using “take”.
