BEGINNERS GRAMMAR CLASS:
The beginners’ grammar class is taught by James and is held three times a week, on Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons from 1.30 – 2.30 pm. It is essential that students attend every class, as homework is given regularly and each lesson builds upon the last. Classes focus on basic grammar and basic pronunciation.
Students are expected to study at home or at school for at least thirty minutes each day, often using a tape which is provided. Many students will give up, but those that are serious will learn well. One request to those who give up: could you please return the tape? It cost’s money and takes time to copy.
GRAMMAR IN JAPANESE:
This class is taught by Mika, on Tuesdays from 1.30 – 2.30 pm. It is aimed specifically at Japanese students, and is open to all skill levels. The class focuses on basic grammar skills, and helps to ensure that students fully understand and can properly employ the skills taught in their general English classes. Homework is given weekly.
IELTS CLASS:
The IELTS class is taught by Pat, and is held on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 1.15 - 2.30 pm. It covers all modules of the IELTS tests, concentrating on strategies to tackle each task. It includes grammar often used in IELTS and teaches common academic vocabulary encountered.
IELTS MOCK TEST:
The IELTS Mock test is held every Monday afternoon. The different components tested are reading, listening and writing. The reading and listening tests are held on the first, second, third and fifth Monday of every month, and are supervised by Jungshil. The writing test is held on the fourth Monday of every month and is supervised by Kevin. It is necessary to sign up for the mock test before 1.30 pm on the day that you wish to sit the test. The sign up forms are posted on the reception counter before school every Monday morning, so students can add their names before class, during break, or immediately after class finishes.
PRESENTATION CLASS:
The presentation class is held by Frances every Monday afternoon from 1.30 -2.30 pm. The class is based around the speaking component of the IELTS exam, but also allows for some group discussion, questions, and teacher feedback. Students are given a different topic card each week and prepare a short presentation on that topic. After the presentations, we go through some vocabulary relevant to the particular topic as a class. Group discussion is encouraged, and students can request one on one feedback about their presentation. The topics for the day’s presentation class are posted on the notice board every Monday morning so students can prepare in advance if they wish.
