Assessment of Computing Training
While the National Diplomas are assessed in the normal manner, under NZQA standards, the computer industry in many cases does not recognise those standards. The industry recognises assessment and testing done internationally through a number of organizations with agreed international standards – eg CompTIA (Network+, Security+, etc), Microsoft (eg MCITP, MCSE, etc) plus many others specific to organizations (eg 3Com, IBM, Sun, etc).
In order to give our students the best possible result, and improve their chances of higher-level employment, St George is a test centre for two internationally recognised test organizations – Prometric, and Pearson Vue.
Prometrics (Microsoft) and Pearson Vue testing
St George is one of a few organizations accredited to test prospective students, both from within and outside St George, for Microsoft Accreditation, so students may learn and test in the same environment.
Prometrics provides testing in approximately 100 computer-related topics and proprietary systems, including IBM, Microsoft, Sun Microsystems, etc. The one of most interest to our students is Microsoft.
As well, Pearson Vue provides testing in other computer-related topics, such as Cisco.
Students are encouraged to work towards their own qualifications, and can in most cases sit all external examinations for industry-standard qualifications within the school.
